CARTERVILLE Ill. (WSIL) -- It was a hot start to the work week, but it'll be even hotter on Tuesday. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for much of the region from noon to 8 PM Tuesday. High temperatures will rise into the upper 90s, with an increase in humidity. Heat indices will climb up near 105 degrees.

This will be the hottest day so far this season. Be sure to drink plenty of water, take breaks indoors when working outside and don't forget about your pets.

Changes will begin to arrive by Tuesday evening. A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible by the late afternoon and evening. The storm chances will then ramp up overnight and into Wednesday morning. Widespread severe weather is unlikely, but an isolated strong storm is possible. Gusty winds, lightning, heavy rain and small hail would be the main hazards.

Behind the front it'll be much more comfortable. High temperatures both Wednesday and Thursday will drop into the upper 80s with lower humidity. Enjoy the break because temperatures heat back up by the weekend.
