CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- It's one of the biggest events for The Women's Center in Carbondale. It's called Take Back The Night. They're a non-profit organization that raises awareness for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors.

Friday's march will be the first in-person event since the start of the pandemic for The Women's Center.

Rape-crisis advocate Nancy Maxwell says women, men and children are welcome to join a night of support and solidarity.

She says the public is invited to make signs outside the parking lot before the march. They'll start at the Gaia House in Carbondale and then head to the Pavilion.

The program will include speakers and the audience will get a chance to share their stories and experiences.

Maxwell says the event is an opportunity to help those who are in need of support.

"When this happens to a person, whether it be male, female or child, they sometimes don't know about the resources that are available to them and where they can go get help. So this is one of our biggest awareness events for the month of April," she said.

The March begins Friday, April 30th at 7 p.m.

If you aren't able to make it, The Women's Center has a 24-hour hotline, (618) 549-4807, where you can get assistance.
