...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/
FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values up to 106.

* WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ Friday.

* IMPACTS...Prolonged exposure to hot temperatures and high humidity
may cause heat illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The first prolonged stretch of heat and
humidity of the season will amplify health impacts. Health impacts
will build with each successive day in the heat and humidity.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

CARBONDALE, Ill (WSIL) -- Thanks to , eight special veterans are getting a new lease on life.

The group held a special graduation and launch ceremony Friday at the This Able Veteran facility on S. Wolf Creek Road in Carbondale.

News 3 Photojournalist, Andy Shofstall, shares the veterans' experience in their own words.

Those veterans came from all over the United States, representing different branches of military service.

They participated in a trauma resiliency program with their new canine partners for three weeks, learning to live and work together. Prior to that, the dogs underwent months of special training in preparation for their life-changing work as service animals.
