through the day. These storms will produce torrential downpours
which will overwhelm drainage systems and small creeks, leading to
areas of flash flooding.

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM CDT THIS MORNING THROUGH THIS
EVENING...

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Areas of southern Illinois along and south of Highway 13
and all of western Kentucky.

* WHEN...From 10 AM CDT this morning through 12 AM CDT.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur
in poor drainage and urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Scattered to numerous thunderstorms will develop across
southern Illinois and western Kentucky from late this morning
through late tonight. Areas that see thunderstorms could
receive 1.5 to 3.0 inches of rain in just one or two hours,
with locally higher amounts up to 4 inches possible.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

All lanes of Purchase Parkway in Graves County blocked due to crash

PADUCAH, Ky. -- The Purchase Parkway has been completely blocked at Mile Marker 16.5 in Graves County because of two traffic accidents involving SEMI trucks. 

The road is not expected to reopen until 12:30 this afternoon.

Northbound drivers should take the Fulton Exit 7 to KY 307 South to U.S. 45 North to KY 80 in order to get to I 69 via Mayfield Exit 21. Southbound drivers should utilize the I-69/KY 80 Exit 21 Interchange to drive U.S. 45 South to get back on the Parkway at Fulton. 

Officials say the first accident happened when a SEMI carrying processed chicken crashed, blocking all Southbound lanes of the Parkway. The second occurred as responders were trying to clean up the first, when a Northbound SEMI crashed and blocked lanes on the other side. 

Drivers are reminded to use caution when navigating these areas as higher traffic is expected.
