NEW MADRID, Mo. -- New Madrid officials located a body in the Mississippi River on Wednesday.Â
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department, officials first received tips of the floating body around 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26. The Pemiscot County Sheriff's Office and New Madrid Fire Department joined forces to search the river near Marsh Landing about eight miles east of Portageville.Â
The New Madrid officials say the body was found at about 2:00 p.m. Crews working on a wall about one mile south of the aforementioned area. Deputies immediately took the body to the Missouri bank.Â
The body was then passed over to Coroner George DeLisle on the scene. The body remains unidentified, but New Madrid officials say the white male was in his 40s to 50s and had dark hair with numerous tattoos. DeLisle has set an autopsy on the body for June 28 in Farmington, MO.Â
The New Madrid County Sheriff's Office asked the public for information to help identify the man. Call the department at 573-748-2516 with tips.Â
