Caruthersville police investigate alleged shooting

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- Police responded to reports of a possible shooting in Caruthersville early Sunday morning. 

According to the city's police department, officers first received word of the incident at about 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 28. Upon arrival on the scene at 7th Street near 20th Street, police say they found "several" victims of gunshots and property with damage. Other victims had reportedly already checked in to nearby hospitals. 

Police say a crowd surrounded the scene, prompting response from neighboring law officials. The Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department, Hayti Police Department, Kennett Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and Missouri Department of Conservation all reportedly aided on the scene. 

Officers say an investigation is underway into the situation. Those who may have seen the incident or possess information on the situation should call the county's sheriff's department via 573-333-2121, 573-333-4101 or 573-333-0000.
