CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. (WSIL)-- FEMA assistance is now available to Kentucky residents impacted by the April storms.

FEMA established a state recovery center in Calloway County at the Calloway County Courthouse Annex, located at 201 S. 4th St., Murray, KY.

They are there to be a one-stop shop for assistance. They are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Kim Keblish with FEMA says they also have resources available for people from state, federal, and community organizations.

"And there can also be money towards other disaster-related expenses like vehicle repair and replacement, moving, storage costs, childcare costs, medical and dental expenses, and, you know, your furniture and your essential appliances. So FEMA assistance can cover a wide variety, Keblish said.

She says FEMA assistance is for those who are uninsured or underinsured.

“FEMA cannot duplicate the benefits that are covered by insurance. So if you have homeowner's insurance, renter's insurance, or vehicle insurance that may cover some of this loss or damage, make sure you file a claim as soon as possible, Keblish says. “After you apply for FEMA assistance, FEMA will ask for that insurance documentation. We'll ask for that insurance settlement letter or ask for that insurance coverage of benefits and some other documentation

FEMA may ask of you as proof of occupancy or proof of home ownership.

Keblish says for people applying, it's important to remember everyone's path to recovery looks different.

“People receive the assistance that they're eligible for, Keblish says. “So folks can have informed conversations with FEMA specialists if they come in person or if they're filling out their application online to know what's available to them so they can advocate the best they can for themselves.

Keblish says representatives from the Small Business Administration will also be available on-site.

“The US Small Business Administration is able to provide long-term, low-interest loans to homeowners, renters, businesses, and certain private nonprofits. And this might be a huge avenue for people who go through insurance already or who go through FEMA and they still have unmet needs, Keblish said.

FEMA officials say people have until July 25th to apply for assistance. Keblish says people can choose to come in person or online to apply for their assistance. They can also check on their applications if they have already applied.
