CAIRO, Ill. -- Senator Dale Fowler will soon welcome the first 3D-printed home to the region with a special groundbreaking.Â
The project is part of Fowler's goal to bring hope and prosperity to the city after the loss of the Elmwood and McBride housing units.Â
"This is such an exciting new development to bring displaced families back home," said Fowler. "This is the start of more development and growth to come for this community and throughout Southern Illinois."
The home has been deemed revolutionary for its unique use of 3D printing technology. Eminence Resource Inc. has partnered with Black Buffalo 3D to use the resources to expedite the process of building a home.Â
"This project represents a significant step forward in sustainable and innovative construction," said Josh Burtis with Eminence. "We are dedicated to leveraging advanced technology to create affordable, eco-friendly housing solutions that can benefit communities around the world."Â
Fowler's Fowler Bonan Foundation has partnered with the Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) to host a block party to celebrate the kick off to construction on the house. The celebration will kick off on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 10:30 a.m. with a groundbreaking. Following the event, the party begins at 11:00 a.m. As part of the partnership, lunch will be provided for all guests.Â
Fowler and ADM have also worked to provide free groceries at the event from the Food Works Mobile Food Market. Fowler says the event is a step toward housing and food security in the region.Â
"This celebration not only addresses food insecurity concerns, but it also addresses the housing cruising while setting new standards for sustainable and affordable living," Fowler said.
The event is completely free to the community and will take place on Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and 16th and 17th Streets. More information is available on the .ÌýÌý
