Four hospitalized after Du Quoin crash

DU QUOIN, Ill. -- A car crash hospitalized four people in Du Quoin on Wednesday night. 

According to Illinois State Police (ISP), the crash occurred on US 51 at Illinois Route 14 around 7:45. ISP responded to the two-vehicle crash and conducted an initial investigation. 

ISP said Emily Arnold, 19, from Centralia, drove a 2018 Silver Dodge eastbound along IL Route 14. At the same time of Arnold's arrival at the road's intersection with US 51, Danny Kirk, 73, of Du Quoin, drove a 2015 Red Chrysler northbound along 51. 

According to ISP, Arnold drove into the intersection and was hit on the passenger side by Kirk's Chrysler. Arnold's Dodge flipped over and landed in a ditch on the side of 51. 

Police reported an infant from Arnold's car was airlifted to a local hospital with mild injuries. Meanwhile, officials took Arnold, her 14-year-old passenger, and Kirk by ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Arnold received citations for the following:

  • Failure to Yield, Right of Way at an Intersection
  • Failure to Secure Child in Safety Belt
