Coroners Office Opening

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. -- Franklin County welcomed its new office for the coroner and morgue on Wednesday.

The Franklin County Board and Coroner Marty Leffler came together for a ribbon cutting outside the office. The county says the new facility will match Leffler's needs while also giving families a space to grieve.

Constructors featured offices, a suite for autopsies, storage for evidence a conference room for families among the building. The space also includes a larger cooler for holding decedents, meaning families can keep their loved ones in the county while planning funerals.

The site of the office used to house records for the county.

The project was funded by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
