WEST CITY, Ill. -- A southern Illinois community will have a new police department they will call home after breaking ground on the new building.

Community leaders, police and residents came together for a groundbreaking event on Monday for the new, state of the art, West City Police Department.

Construction for the new building will begin later this week. The location of the new police station will be at West Webster Street and South Central Street.

The new building will replace the current West City Police Department which was originally Washington School and was built in 1950.

The new facility will house both the West City Police Department and the West City Police Department Dispatch Center.

They anticipate the building will be completed by February of 2024.
