I-55 Southbound reopen in Cape Girardeau after car fire

UPDATE -- I-55 Southbound has reopened following a car fire. 

Cape Girardeau Police confirmed the reopening at 1:17 p.m. on Thursday. The road was closed about 40 minutes.

ORIGINAL STORY -- CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Southbound lanes are closed on I-55 for a vehicle fire, according to Cape Girardeau Police. 

An email from the department's Public Information Officer Bobby Newton said  emergency officials are on the sight of the fire at mile-marker 92.6. 

Drivers heading south must find a detour as both southbound lanes are closed. Drivers heading north are urged to find a different route if possible, or give crews space to work if not.
