There is new information tonight about how local Illinois businesses are keeping their customers safe after someone visited their establishments and was later diagnosed with measles.

MARION, Ill. (WSIL)-- There is new information tonight about how local Illinois businesses are keeping their customers safe after someone visited their establishments and was later diagnosed with measles.

As News 3 first reported last night, seven Marion businesses were impacted. A number of those owners told News 3 that customers shouldn't be alarmed to visit their locations because they've been cleaning nonstop.

A Marion retailer, a restaurant, a grocery store, and more are among the locations where potential exposures may have taken place.

Health officials with the Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department tell News 3, whenever they have a case of measles, officials will do contact tracing. Debi Johnson is the public information officer with the county.

“Any place that needs our assistance with any kind of help with any kind of cleanup. They are more than welcome to call the health department or call their family doctor, Johnson said.

The IDPH put out a list of possible exposure locations in Marion; they include:

  • Don Sol Restaurant
  • Legacy Fitness

  • Walmart

  • Kroger Grocery

  • Wonder Wash Laundry

  • Easy Coin Laundry

  • Small Star Laundry

Officials urged anyone who visited those locations during the timing window to monitor for symptoms for 21 days from the day they were potentially exposed.

“Vaccination by far is the prevention. Your first vaccine is 93% effective, and when you get your second one, that's 97%, Johnson said.

Symptoms include a fever, cough, runny nose, pink eye, or a rash that starts around the head or face and spreads through the rest of the body.

Anyone who believes they may have been exposed to measles is encouraged to contact their healthcare provider about protection through prior vaccination or the need for future vaccination.
