Local man dies after dog attack, sheriff says

CARDWELL, Mo. (WSIL) -- A local sheriff's office detail an incident where they said a man died as a result of a dog attack.

The Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder said on September 25, at 3:41 p.m., deputies responded to 203 W. Mulberry Street in Cardwell for a call related to an person attacked by an animal.

Information reported to the sheriff's office stated a 72-year-old man fell and couldn't get up and was then attacked by a dog.

Holder said while deputies were going to the scene, Dunklin County Communications detailed updated information, stating first responders on scene were not able to get to the victim due to multiple aggressive dogs.

After deputies got to the scene, one of the dogs began to growl as deputies moved closer to them. Holder said the dog charged them and then law enforcement shot and killed the dog.

Sheriff Holder said the man on the ground had severe lacerations to his arms, face and throat with a lot of blood loss. Medic One personnel was on scene and stated the man was dead.

The victim was identified as Jimmy Miller.

The victim's wife was also reported to have tried to assist her husband in getting up off the ground, however, Holder said that's when a big brown dog came over and started attacking the man.

The Dunklin County Coroner was called to the scene to remove the body.
