HERRIN, Ill. -- Animal lovers came together on Saturday to rescue a kitten who was trapped in a storm drain.Â

The scene occurred at the Casey's off North Park Avenue. A worker at the Casey's reportedly came into work and heard the kitten below the drain around 5:00 a.m. It was then that the Herrin Feline Fixers got involved.Â

A member of the Board of Directors for Herrin Feline Fixers Jamie Hammonds told News 3 the group saw a post on Facebook from the Casey's worker on Saturday afternoon about the kitten and rushed to the scene.Â
Hammonds said the group worked for about four and a half hours to rescue the young cat from the drain. She estimates, in total, the kitten was stuck in the drain for around 12 hours.Â
Herrin Feline Fixers' attempts were eventually successful, and the kitten received a warm welcome into Hammonds' home on Saturday night. The kitten was given the name Lucky, which perfectly describes his outcome.Â
Hammonds provided a picture of Mr. Lucky on Sunday morning. He looks to be doing great after his frightful Saturday!

Hammonds says she will continue to watch over Lucky and put out a fundraiser soon for his medical needs.Â
will continue to conduct Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) services around the community. The group was founded by Katie Rose Barton.Â
