MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Mo. -- A Missouri man found guilty for murder in southeast Missouri earlier in May was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday.

On July 9, Deparis Townsend was in court for a sentencing hearing in Mississippi County. The prosecutor for this case, Claire Poley, stated Townsend was sentenced to life without parole for the murder of Josh Sisk.

Additionally, Townsend was sentenced to 15 years for armed criminal action, 30 years for unlawful use of a weapon and seven years for resisting arrest; all to run consecutive.

Poley detailed the case, stating the jury found Townsend guilty for the four felony charges back in May of this year after a three-day trial.

“I am proud of the judicial process and the cooperation of those who come forward in this terrible act of senseless violence, Poley stated. “I hope that this conviction will encourage more community members to stand up and help us bring justice to victims.

Poley says the May trial included statements on gunshot residue, forensic pathology and eyewitness accounts.

Assisting Poley with the investigation was the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control, the East Prairie Police Department, the Charleston Police Department and the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.
