MT. VERNON, Ill. -- Members of the Mt. Vernon Township High School community will see an increased number of police officers on campus starting Monday.Ìý
The Mount Vernon Police Department has scheduled active shooter training at the school for Monday, July 29 and Wednesday, July 31.Ìý
"The Mt. Vernon Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff's Office have always taken this training seriously and strive to provide our officers and deputies with the best training and preparation possible," said the department on .Ìý
The training will give officers the chance to practice response practices to a shooter in a less stressful situation. Police say the training will allow for a better response in the case of an actual emergency.Ìý
The police department holds several trainings throughout the year. Officers thank the Mt. Vernon school for allowing police to train on the campus this week.Ìý
