Scott City MO house fire

SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Fire officials released the full details surrounding Friday's house fire.

The Scott City Fire Department arrived at the 700 block of Central Avenue at 9:27 Friday morning. Officials noticed an intense level of smoke and deemed the situation a "working fire." This classification triggered aid from the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, NBC Fire Protection District, the Chaffee Fire Department, and the Benton Fire team to the scene.

At 9:28, officials arrived at the property to find the single-story house plagued with "heavy fire," which originated from the garage. Officials used water to attack the fire with help from the Scott City Police. These efforts were successful; officials contained the fire inside the home and cut off the garage fire from spreading further.

Officials rescued a cat during the battle with the fire. Residents of the home escaped before officials' arrival, but one person did sustain minor injuries.

As previously reported, officials deemed the fire began while filling a utility task vehicle (UTV) with fuel.
