CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The SIU Carbondale Air Force ROTC program will see a new commander take over the position on Friday.

Lt. Col. Chay M. Derbigny, of Murphysboro, will head the training, education, testing and recruitment of students joining the college's program. His efforts will bleed into students at Southeast Missouri State University and John A. Logan College.

Derbigny takes over for Lt. Col. Jessica H. Dwyer, who has accepted a position as deputy division chief for acquisition force development at the U.S. Pentagon. Dwyer held the position as commander since June 2021.

Lt. Col. Derbigny joins the SIU team on the heels of stints as director for Maxwell AFB's 2024 "Beyond the Horizon" Air and Space Show and academic instructor at Air Command and Staff College. He previously held roles in special operations and air education and training aviation for the U.S. Air Force Academy.

SIU will welcome Derbigny into the position in a ceremony on Friday, June 28 at Saluki Alumni Plaza at 10:00 a.m.
