MURRAY, Ky. -- State police are continuing to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Calloway County.
The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team released more information in regards to the officer-involved shooting which occurred on August 22 in Murray.
Police say preliminary interviews are now done and their initial findings have been released.
KSP stated Murray police responded to a home on Johnson Blvd. at around 10:30 p.m. on August 22 for a report of someone threatening to harm themselves.Â
Authorities identified the individual at the home as 39-year-old Matthew Johnson.
Police said Johnson pointed a rifle towards officers during an interaction at one point. Police then said Johnson barricaded himself inside the home.
The Marshall County Special Response Team then came by to assist in the situation.
Meanwhile, KSP says a warrant was issued for Johnson for Wanton Endangerment 1st degree and Terroristic Threatening 3rd degree.
Negotiations were ongoing at this time between authorities and Johnson. A mental health crisis hotline also was utilized, however, all negotiating efforts were unsuccessful.
State police said officers with the Marshall County Special Response Team deployed some gas into the home at around 2:30 a.m. Johnson then fired a rifle at the officers which hit Deputy Jacob Hamm in the leg and arm, police said.
Law enforcement from the Marshall County Sheriff's Office on scene also returned fire and Johnson was hit and injured, KSP reported.
State police said Johnson later surrendered and was flown to a hospital in Nashville while Deputy Hamm was taken to the Murray-Calloway Hospital for treatment. Hamm was treated and later released.
The investigation is ongoing.
