Suspect in custody, two females safe after hostage incident in southeast Missouri

Hostage situation in Senath, Mo.

SENATH, Mo. -- Police were on scene of a hostage situation in the southern part of Dunklin County during the evening and night hours on January 29.

Dunklin County Sheriff's Office first told News 3 that multiple police agencies were on scene in Senath where an individual barricaded themselves in a home with two other people inside. That happened in the early evening hours.

At 8:43 p.m., the sheriff's office said one hostages was freed. Police agencies stayed on scene for several more hours with the suspect still inside the home along with one hostage.

Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder said the suspect was a male and the two hostages were female.

The sheriff's office said the suspect in the home was considered armed and dangerous at the time. Holder said there was a sword and knives inside the home.

Just before midnight, the sheriff's office said the hostage incident was over. They said the suspect was taken to the Dunklin County Jail and both of the hostages were okay.

The incident happened along Church Lane in Senath.
