CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Police in Cape Girardeau took two men into custody in connection with a situation they believe was an attempted robbery.Â
The Cape Girardeau Police Department says its officers responded to a call about a suspicious person on Friday, July 12 around 12:30 a.m. Officers arrived on the scene in the 3400-block of William to find a white male unconscious with a reported AK47 across his chest and a ski mask on his head.Â
Officers say they quickly secured the suspect in handcuffs and took the gun. Police identified the suspect in a press release as Scott Taylor II, 19, from Jackson, MO. The release also said the firearm included 30 loaded rounds of ammunition. Medical officials were called to the scene to check on Taylor and bring him to a local hospital. Police say Taylor seemingly overdosed, but the substance remains unknown.Â
Police say the person who initially gave the alert about the situation described a black Dodge Challenger that fled the scene upon police arrival. Police investigated and report that Taylor had a Challenger registered in his name. Investigators says they managed to find the car in the 100 block of Siemers Drive under the operation of Jude Jaco, 19, of Jackson, MO.Â
The information from the police indicates that officers approached Jaco and noticed he seemed to be under the influence of alcohol. Police also noticed a Glock 23 Semi-Automatic pistol on the floorboard near Jaco's feet. Officers quickly took the firearm and say it included 11 rounds of loaded ammunition. Police say they also found more rounds of ammunition and several magazines for the AK47 rifle and Glock pistol throughout the car.Â
According to the police department, Taylor received the following formal charges from the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutors Office:
- Robbery, class B felony
- Armed Criminal Action, felony
- Unlawful Use of a Weapon, class B felony
- Assault, 4th degree, class A misdemeanor
The police says the Prosecutor's Office also charged Jaco with the following:
- Robbery, class B felony
- Armed Criminal Action, felony
- Unlawful Use of a Weapon, class B felony
- Driving while intoxicated, class B misdemeanor
Police say the two men are being held without bond.Â
