BENTON, Ill. -- Six people were injured after a two-vehicle crash near Benton on Wednesday night.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office said they received a report on June 19 at 8:15 p.m. about a two-vehicle crash near South Stuyvesant Street and Summer Road.
After deputies responded to the scene, they started investigating and six people were reportedly injured.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Unit #1 (03 Chevrolet Silverado) was traveling east on Summer Road approaching the intersection of S. Stuyvesant Street. Unit # 2 (07 Toyota Camry) was northbound on S. Stuyvesant Street and proceeding through the intersection at Summer Road. Unit #1 failed to stop at the intersection and struck Unit #2 near the drivers side door of the vehicle. Unit #1 was occupied by 5 male juveniles. Lance A. The six people were taken to hospitals, all reported with significant injuries. Three of the individuals were taken by Air Evac while the three others were taken by ambulance, authorities said.
Assisting the sheriff's office in the crash response were the Ewing-Northern Fire Department, Benton Fire Department, West City Fire Department, West Frankfort Fire Department, Abbott-AMR, United Medical Response, Air Evac, and the Benton Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing.
