BENTON, Ill. -- There is upcoming road construction that could impact visitors to Rend Lake.

Rend Lake Dam Road will be closed to through traffic from September 30 through November 3, 2024 for major roadwork and necessary concrete repairs on the Spillway Bridge.

Beginning September 30, engineers will be onsite for concrete abutment repairs on the Spillway Bridge, weather permitting.

Starting October 21, there will be roadwork from the entrance of South Marcum Recreation Area to Sugar Creek lot at the intersection of Mine 24 Road and Licata Road.

Roadwork includes culvert repairs and road surface repaving. That work is expected to be completed by November 3, 2024.

From September 30 until October 20, during the Spillway Bridge abutment repairs, campers and visitors to South Marcum Recreation Area (including South Marcum Boat Ramp, Shelter 9, Dale Miller Group Camp, and South Marcum Campground) can access these areas via Mine 24 road on the east side of the Rend Lake Dam.

From October 21 to November 3, during the roadwork on Mine 24 road from South Marcum Recreation Area to Sugar Creek parking lot, campers and visitors to South Marcum Recreation Area (including South Marcum Boat Ramp, Shelter 9, Dale Miller Group Camp, and South Marcum Campground) can access these areas via Rend City Road and the Rend Lake Dam Road on the west side of the lake (near the Rend Lake Project Office/Visitor Center).

During this time, the Dam Road will remain closed to through traffic.

During these projects, there will not be access to River Road.

Visitors can still access the Spillway Recreation Area, Dedication Lot, and the Rend Lake Bike Trail on the east side of the dam.
