(WSIL) -- The City of West Frankfort is mourning the loss of a city commissioner.
West Frankfort Mayor Tom Jordan released a statement on the passing of Finance Commissioner, Mike Simpson.
“Our community is heartbroken by the passing of my longtime friend, Mike Simpson. Mike passed away Wednesday evening after a hard fought battle with cancer. Mike was more than our Finance Commissioner, he was a resource of knowledge and experience. My heart goes out to his wife, Marilyn, his daughters and their family, and to the countless friends that loved Mike. West Frankfort was blessed to have benefitted by his selfless dedication to the city he loved. Rest peacefully in your eternal home Mike. We miss you already. Go Cardinals!"
Services are tentatively scheduled for Monday, April 26, 2021 at the First Christian Church in West Frankfort.
