Basketball teams from six states to converge in Carbondale for holiday event

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- A basketball tournament event featuring teams from six different states will gather in Carbondale as part of the "Illinois Get Down" holiday showcase on December 13-14.

Dan Cross, a member with the Carbondale High School, IHSA and University of Florida Hall of Fame, is bringing together the event in Carbondale. Assisting him is Troy Hudson and Stephen Bardo, along with other team members.

“I am excited for the opportunity to give back to the community and provide an economic impact on Southern Illinois by bringing exposure to High School teams and basketball programs worthy of invitation. Our mission is to empower student athletes to reach their highest academic and athletic potential through the game of basketball,� said Dan Cross. “I have always been passionate about basketball and enjoy the chance to help youth pursue their passion for the sport as well as encourage students through a positive outlet .�

Cross continues by saying, "We believe that the impact of sports can be a powerful tool for promoting positive values, discipline and creating a better future for all. Sports gave me the opportunity to receive a free education and it taught me many life-lessons that I took with me after sports, college and pros were over.�

There are a total of 14 teams attending the event from six different states. The breakdown of the teams are below...

Illinois Teams

  • Carbondale HS
  • Herrin HS
  • Lincoln Park (CHI)
  • Murphysboro HS
  • Urbana HS
  • Meridian HS
  • Hyde Park (CHI)

Georgia Team

  • Cedar Shoals HS

Arkansas Team

  • N. Little Rock HS

Tennessee Team

  • Craigmont HS

Oklahoma Team

  • Douglass HS

Florida Team

  • Jones HS

Entry for adults is $15 for an all day pass and $10 for students. On Friday, an adult ticket is $10 and Students pay $5.
