COBDEN, IL (WSIL) - Camp season has made a comeback in our region.
Former Appleknocker star Elliot Lowndes speaks at Cobden basketball camp
Last week, News 3 Sports was at the Pinckneyville Hoops camp. On Wednesday, we went to Cobden to check out some future Appleknockers.
The team's coaching staff held its first basketball camp inside of the team's new gym. Former Cobden High Coach Wendell Wheeler led the camp. It featured more than 60 kids in two sessions.
The highlight was Cobden Grad Elliot Lowndes. Lowndes spoke to the campers and fielded questions about his basketball journey.
The seven footer spent the last two years playing ball for John A. Logan in Carterville. He will join the SEMO Redhawks this upcoming season.
He hopes his advice is both simple and powerful.
"Dedication and hard work. That's what really makes your dreams come true," said Lowndes. "I mean, if you are not dedicated and you are not willing to work hard, you are not going to get it. I know a few of them are really good kids, and I think they can do something good for Cobden basketball."
The camp is open to all students in grades 2 through 9 across the area. The final day of camp is on Thursday. The cost is $35.
