Benton (WSIL) -- The Benton boys cross country team won a sectional championship for just the third time in school history, ending an 18 year drought.

At ten on Tuesday night we went in-depth with the Benton Rangers. Reece Johnson is just the third Ranger ever to be named all-state twice. The other two, Coach Brent McLain and Brent's daughter Mia McLain.

There is a strong bond between Coach McLain and Johnson, and to have have fun Reece sang a rap to have fun but also show his appreciation for his coach.

No state championship trophies are being handed out in Illinois so WSIL Sports wanted to recognize each of our sectional champions. Competing during a pandemic is not easy, so we believe by giving our local athletes a chance to be on live TV is the best way we could say thank you for their hard work and dedication.
