CARTERVILLE (WSIL) -- The Carterville girls basketball team is finding success.
They are off to a 20-1 - start and 6-0 in the Southern Illinois River to River Mississippi conference.
Over in Carterville something is working for the girls basketball team.
We've just really clicked and now every time we just see something we just know where everyone is going to be on the court so that's a really big improvement and that's really good for us this year," Carterville senior Abbey Crain said.
"I think we have good chemistry. Me and Abbey have been playing since 6th grad together," Carterville senior Jeniah Thompson said.
"We're also moving the ball, taking really good shots, looking for each other. They are very unselfish," Carterville Head Coach Matt Crain said.
The Lions are backed by 3 strong leaders, each with over 1000 total career points.
"There is pressure, but I think all 3 seniors, we enjoy the pressure, we embrace it," Carterville senior Megan Barton said.
"We always try and get everyone involved with it so it doesn't feel as much as pressure, just go have fun and get everyone involved," Thompson said.
This team also has a family connection. Head Coach Matt Crain is senior Abbey Crain's father.
"It's really fun and I don't know what it would be like to have a different coach its really cool," Abbey Crain said.
"We got the same personality but its been good, main reason I got back into coaching to begin with," Matt Crain said.
On this talented roster there is one senior that has already committed to playing D-1 ball right here at SIU, but for her its all about helping her teammates succeed.
"Honestly, I'm more of a passer like I like making a good pass and seeing someone finish it, that always gets me hyped up," Thompson said.
This team is amped for what the rest of the season holds.
"Catch us at state, 2020," Barton said.
