FAIRFIELD (WSIL) -- The Fairfield Mules continue to improve with every practice.
The Mules won the Black Diamond conference championship in the spring going 6 and 0.. Last years seniors never lost a conference game.
This years seniors want to keep the legacy alive. Head Coach Justin Townsend said the veteran leadership has been a strength of this team early on.
"17 seniors, a majority of them with playoff game experience as well as they know what it takes to win a conference championship, Townsend said. "Also our offensive and defensive line, I think we return 10 letter-winners, 8 starters, so they have a lot of game time in and its really been a strength of ours this early in the season."
"We just embrace the fact that we don't want to be the ones to break the streak," Fairfield senior defensive tackle Trent Martin said. "I just try to help out any way I can and if I see someone struggling with what we're working on at the moment I just try and help them out and help the team out in any way that I can."
