Marion baseball blanks Waterloo 3-0 to advance

CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Marion will advance to Monday's Class 3A Regional Championship to face Mt. Vernon. The Wildcats advance by defeating Waterloo 3-0 in the 3A Regional Semifinal from Itchy Jones Stadium.

Mt. Vernon blanked Carbondale 9-0 to punch their ticket.

In the Semifinal from the SIU Campus, Marion struck first against Waterloo. In the bottom of the second, no score, the Wildcats with runners at second and third Nehemiah Goodman struck out but the ball is mishandled allowing Goodman to make his way to first. When the ball was thrown to first to complete the out, and Marion catcher Ryan Trokey alertly took off for home and slid in safely to score the games first run.

Same inning Gavin Plant delivered an RBI hit , scoring Trace Bittle to make it 2-0 Marion.

In the 4th inning, Waterloo threatening, but Karsten Stotlar makes the perfect pitch to help himself. Waterloo would leave two runners stranded in the inning.
