ANNA (WSIL) -- Marlee Smith medaled on Thursday. Her story is an amazing one. It wasn't long ago she was going through chemo and it's awesome to see her out here, big smile, full locks of hair. Today she opened up about her journey.
"When you think you are on the brink of death, you know when you get back out here, it's better," Smith said.
"I'm kind of choked up right now to see where she's been, we saw her in the hospital and had her come back for golf," Anna Jonesboro Golf Coach Brandon Bierstedt said.
"It's been hard, but it's been awesome because she's such an example for these other kids that she doesn't care about that, we still use her for an example and take every day with a grain of salt, you don't know what tomorrow is going to bring."
"Best thing about being out here is I can be out here with my friends and my community and show them nothing is going to stop me and the second thing is to shoot them thirties. It's hard but I feel I'm going to get it, Smith said."
"She's a lot stronger now so she has the stamina, she has the power to hit the ball a little bit farther to help her get closer to the greens so she is up on the green in two strokes versus last year, she was up on the green in three strokes," Bierstredt said.
You do you find yourself playing with the locks?
"Yes it's bushy so it gets hot out here sometimes so I know I used to have hair all the way down to my knees and now I am complaining about this," Smith said. "I think I'm ready to almost get another haircut."
