MURPHYSBORO (WSIL)-- We got a chance to catch up with two legendary coaches in our region. Tom Ashman former Murphysboro and John A. Logan Basketball Head Coach and Doug Woolard former Assistant coach of Murphysboro.

These two joined with the 1973 -74 Red Devils basketball team and the 1946 and 1948 Football team and 5 individual inductees into the Murphysboro Hall of Fame this past weekend. An informal recognition ceremony occurred at halftime at the basketball game Friday and a formal ceremony on Saturday night

"Well it's absolutely awesome," said Ashman. "I grew up in this community and my heart is here. It always has been here. I love the people here in this community and as a coach I grew very close to the players I coached."

"It's an honor to be back," said Woolard. "Tom Ashman gave me my first opportunity to get involved in Athletics. I actually was a freshman and JV coach for two years and happened to be honored to be a part of this team as an assistant coach. So I looked forward to it and its a great honor to come back and have a team be inducted into a hall of fame."
