MURPHYSBORO Several area high school football teams have high expectations heading into the season, and that list includes the Murphysboro Red Devils.
The Red Devils return several key contributors from last year’s team that finished 8-3 and won a game in the 4A playoffs.
Gary Carter’s crew returns its entire backfield on both sides of the ball with the biggest question marks coming on both lines as graduation took its toll on experienced varsity contributors.
As always, the Red Devils will open with their Jackson County rivals from Carbondale. This year’s game will be played at renovated Doc Bencini Field, where the brand new turf will debut with the annual bragging rights game.
