Mullins the man for SIU

  • 0

CARBONDALE SIU is turning to one of its own to be the next men’s basketball coach.  The school announced Wednesday Bryan Mullins has agreed to a five-year deal to become the Salukis next head coach.

Mullins will earn $475,000 per year.

The 32-year old will replace Barry Hinson, who finished 116-111 with zero postseason appearances in seven seasons as head coach.

Mullins was the starting point guard on SIU’s last two of six straight NCAA tournament teams.  The 2007 team set a school record with 29 wins and finished a school-best number 11 national ranking.

The Saluki Hall of Famer has been a member of Porter Moser’s staff at Loyola for the last five seasons.  He’s been an assistant coach the past three years and the associate head coach this past season.  Of course the Ramblers advanced to the Final Four in 2018, finishing with a school-record 32 wins.

The school will introduce Mullins at a press conference Thursday at 4:00.  There will be a pep rally and town hall meeting with the new head coach at the Arena at 5:00. Â
