CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- SIU men's basketball season might not have ended the way the Salukis wanted but there were a lot of positives to take away from the season. A team returning just 4 players from the previous year and had 10 newcomers were projected to finish last in the Missouri Valley. The Salukis went on a 7 game win streak and even earned a 5th seed headed into the Valley tournament. We saw great potential under 1st year head coach and former Saluki Bryan Mullins to build a successful program.
Barret Benson was named first team MVC Scholar athlete and Marcus Domask took home MVC Freshman of the Year and MVC Newcomer of the year. Domask also earned ALL MVC Second team, becoming first player in SIU history to earn all MVC first or second team as a freshman.
The program's future looks bright.
