CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Southern Illinois baseball successfully swept Belmont during a doubleheader at Itchy Jones Stadium on Friday. The Salukis clinched the first game 4-3 and shut out the Bruins 8-0 in the nightcap.
Jordan Bach's three-run home run was pivotal in the Salukis' 4-3 victory for the first game. His sixth homer of the year gave Southern Illinois a crucial Missouri Valley Conference win.
The Salukis took an early 4-0 lead in the second inning, and then held on for the win after 3 runs by Belmont.
In the second game, Meade Johnson delivered eight scoreless innings, leading to an 8-0 shutout. The Salukis launched four home runs in the game. Southern Illinois exploded for six runs in the fourth inning.
Southern Illinois will face Southeast Missouri on Tuesday for the season finale at Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau.
