CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Friday a video went viral that showed a former SIU baseball player using an inappropriate racial slur.
SIU responded quickly by issuing a statement on social media. SIU Athletic Director Liz Jarnigan and SIU Baseball Coach Lance Rhodes took to Twitter to state they don't condone this behavior and it is not a respresentation of the university.

Neither Rhodes nor Jarnigan mentioned the individual by name. They didn't want to give him any more attention, and we followed suit by doing the same on air.
This individual recently graduated SIU and was a member of the 2020 baseball team. The NCAA recently ruled that seniors from a spring sport would be eligible to compete in the spring of 2021, but this individual will not have that opportunity. SIU has cut all ties.
