CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- SIU Head Basketball Coach Bryan Mullins and his Salukis are focused on Wednesday's big matchup.

It's a statement game. First place Norther. Iowa is in town.

SIU is 3-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference and a win Wednesday night gives a young Salukis team much needed confidence.

Its a tough stretch coming up. Northern Iowa, then a road trip to Illinois State. Salukis are still winless away from home, and then head back to Carbondale to face Loyola (Chicago), a team SIU has already lost to.

So Coach is leaning on the home crowd to give his team some energy and an advantage.

"It's a great challenge for our group right now," Mullens said.

"I was pleased with our effort against Drake and we got things we got to improve on in order to have a successful night tomorrow night. I really hope we can get the Banterra Center as loud and as crazy as it was on Sunday. It was a great atmosphere there Sunday and we need everyone to come out and support us tomorrow night."

The game tips off at 8 PM and is televised on FOX SPorts Midwest.
