CARBONDALE, IL (WSIL) - On Wednesday, we told you about the return of the Southern Illinois fall league. On Thursday, we took a trip to the field to talk to SIFL commissioner Zipper Brandhorst.Â
Fall baseball is a little more than two weeks away. All games will take place across several locations in Southern Illinois.
The wooden-bat league has a record-high of 201 players across 15 teams.
Last year, a Murphysboro-based team won the league championship. They may have a very good chance of repeating.
The league allows high school players in the region to extend their season by seven weeks. Of the 15 teams in SIFL, 14 are from Southern Illinois; one is based out of Paducah.
This league has many benefits, and its commissioner believes it will make all of its players better both this season and beyond.
"Its just like anything, you've got to try to keep improving. The only way you are going to improve is to keep at it, just like golf or basketball. You have to keep getting your reps in," said SIFL Commissioner Zipper Brandhorst.
