...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/
FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values between 100 and 106.

* WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ Friday.

* IMPACTS...Prolonged exposure to hot temperatures and high
humidity may cause heat illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The first prolonged stretch of heat and
humidity of the season will amplify health impacts. Health
impacts will build with each successive day in the heat and
humidity.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early
morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat
exhaustion and heat stroke.

SIU Softball falls to Belmont in MVC Championship game

CARTERVILLE, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Southern Illinois University softball team faced a challenging defeat against Belmont in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, losing 6-2.

Emma Gipson of Southern Illinois and Belmont's Maya Johnson engaged in a tight pitcher's duel during the initial innings. Gipson kept the game scoreless through two innings, but Belmont took the lead in the third with two solo home runs.

Jackie Lis hit her 11th home run of the season in the fourth inning, scoring Emma Austin and closing the gap to 3-2. However, Belmont extended their lead with a three-run homer in the seventh inning.

The Salukis couldn't recover in the final inning, resulting in their loss in the championship game.
