CARBONDALE, IL (WSIL) - Basketball season is not quite over for SIU.
While the men's squad suffered a heartbreaking first-round loss to UIC, the Saluki women hit the court on Thursday against Indiana State in The Hoops In The Heartland MVC Tournament.
It's been an up-and-down year for Kelly Bond-White's crew, but, with the playoffs on Thursday, none of that matters. Everyone is zero-and-zero. Past performance and seeding is just a distraction.
#8-seed SIU faces #9-seed Indiana State in the first postseason game. The two teams spilt the regular season series, each winning and losing one game.
KBW's squad is just looking forward to the start of the post-season, especially the team's two seniors.
"Being a senior, it means a lot," said Guard Quierra Love. "This is my last chance to get some things accomplished. Playing for my teammates and my teammates playing for me and our seniors, I think, will keep the magic going."
"I think it is pretty bittersweet, I think it is real exciting going into post-season," said Forward Adrianna Katcher. "Because there are so many magical things that can happen, you can come out on top go to the NCAA tournament for the first time."
Wouldn't that be magical? We'll hear from Coach Bond White ahead of tip-off on News 3.Â
