January 14th Midday forecast with Meteorologist Nick Boynton

CARTERVILLE Ill. (WSIL) -- Cold, cold, cold. That is the name of the game with our forecasts lately, and it doesn't look to be changing. Temperatures today should hover around the freezing mark. Another reinforcing shot of arctic air is poised to move through the area this afternoon. With it a string of mostly cloudy skies. It should be quick moving though so expect a good part of the day to have sunshine as well.

As the sun sets our temperatures are going to be dropping like a rock all the way down into the single digits overnight. Some models even bring some negative values across our region but at the very least some wind chills may get into the negatives. This is dangerous cold, and it would be wise to keep a faucet dripping to make sure your pipes don't freeze. Also, make sure you're layering up today and tomorrow as frost bite is a huge issue with temperatures like these. Don't forget about your furry friends as well and limit their time outside.
