PINCKNEYVILLE (WSIL) -- Coronavirus is forcing the cancellation of a tradition for the community.
The annual Steam, Gas and Threshing show has been called off due to virus concerns. The American Thresherman Association board in charge of the popular event decided Saturday to make the announcement.
The show had been scheduled for August 13th - 16th in Pinckneyville.
Several activities were planned during that time such as the tractor parade, farm horse pull and competition, nightly tractor pulls, and antique show and swap meet.
The board went on to say that they will come together and evaluate again before making a decision on the October event.
The annual Steam, Gas and Threshing show has been taking place since 1959 and draws people together for tractors big and small, steam engines, fair food, and more.
In 2019, the board's President Josh Giacomo told that the show is about more than tractors but bringing neighbors together.
"It’s kind of a great big family reunion because we don’t see each other that long. There’s probably a hundred and fifty volunteers around here that you might not see but once a year," Giacomo said.
