JOHNSON COUNTY, ILLINOIS (WSIL) -- Celebrating its 15th year and inviting the public back again, the Heather-Treat Memorial Duck Race takes off Sunday afternoon near Tunnel Hill.
The popular event due to the pandemic, and is the largest fundraising effort for the organization, which helps local cancer patients with expenses not covered by insurance.
Organizer and Memorial founder Robin Harper-Whitehead says, the event normally includes a full day of music, food and games but is a little low key this year out of extra precautions; however, it will still make a big impact in giving back.
"We are going to sell some candy snacks and concession snacks, and all that money will go back to the Blessings in a Backpack program, which is a really big program here in Johnson County helping our Children too," explains Harper-Whitehead.
She adds it is a big day for both organizations, but most important, "It's bringing families back out and enjoying themselves and giving back, and that's the most important thing is to do that."
