(WSIL) -- The first shipment of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Region 5 this week. In total, the region received 2,515 doses of the vaccine, according to Governor JB Pritzker's office.

The Governor's Office released the number of doses going to each county and hospital system.

As the Regional Hospital Coordinating Center, Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) is responsible for storing and distributing the vaccines in Region 5.

Those doses almost exclusively go to healthcare workers in each county.

In Region 5, Jackson County did not receive a direct health department shipment of the vaccine because they do not fall in the top 50 for deaths from COVID-19 per capita. They are included in the Regional Hospital Coordinating Centers (RHCC), which will be distributed by SIU Carbondale.
