Ullin, IL (WSIL) -- Tuesday marks the one year anniversary of the first COVID-19 death reported by Southern 7 Health Department. Tuesday, officials hosted a remembrance ceremony.

Those ceremonies were held at the Southern 7 Health Department Administrative Office and at each county courthouse in the Southern 7 region. They included a moment of silence for the lives lost.

"We're here to remember the lives of 102 men and women that have lost their lives due to Covid-19. On this day -- May 4, 2020 -- 1 year ago at 2pm. The health department received the call that the first person had passed away from Covid-19." said Rhonda Ray, Executive Director of Southern Seven Health Department.

Each county in the Southern 7 region signed a proclamation to declare Tuesday May 4th, 2021 as COVID-19 Remembrance Day.
