More Carbondale businesses closed after rise in COVID-19 infections

CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- After a significant rise in COVID-19 cases in Jackson County, two more Carbondale restaurants are temporarily shutting their doors.

Tres Hombres closed early on Tuesday evening after receiving confirmation that an employee tested positive for COVID-19. In a statement on its , management says the restaurant is severely understaffed and will be closed for at least two weeks as each staff members self isolates.

Flame Grill & Bar says its also closing temporarily to pro-actively address the rising concerns of COVID-19 in Carbondale.

In a , the restaurant says it does not have any employees that have tested positive, but are taking the precautions to ensure the safety of guests and employees.

Flame Grill & Bar also says each employee is going to be tested while the restaurant is closed.

In addition to Tres Hombres and Flame, Pinch Penny Liquors has also temporarily closed.

An employee at the business tested positive for COVID-19. Owner Greg Karayiannis said Monday that every member of the staff will be tested during the closure.

"This announcement is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do as a business owner. Since we reopened in April we have taken every precautionary and safety measure recommended by both the CDC and our local health department, we have required 100% of both staff and customers to be masked while in our business. We hope that those precautionary measures will keep this one case an isolated incident but we will be closing to clean, sanitize and await the test results of our staff," said Karayiannis in a post to the "Southern Illinois Eats" Facebook group.
