PINCKNEYVILLE (WSIL)---Retired basketball coach Dick Corn is rarely sick, but he was surprised when he started feeling fatigued early last December after his step son tested positive for COVID-19.

"Myself, my wife, neither of us was feeling very good either. So we went and tested and obviously we tested positive," Corn recalled. "I didn't feel like I was deathly ill, but it's the sickest I've ever been."

What concerned Corn the most, was how long it took to recover from the virus.

"From the time that I actually felt like I had it, until I felt normal again, probably was four weeks," Corn said. "I feel very fortunate that my case was mild."

Since recovering, Corn took part in the "This is Our Shot" campaign, hoping his story would help others become comfortable with the vaccine.

Because he was also hesitant to the vaccine at first.

"I think I was a little hesitant, I didn't want to be first in line. But at the same time, I felt like it was something that I should do. I didn't want to go through that again, from a selfish standpoint, but more importantly, you look at a bigger picture, and you didn't wanna be a carrier," said Corn.

Corn is adamant that getting the vaccine is a choice, but he also recognizes that everyone needs to do their part.

"You know it seems like we're gaining ground but we haven't won the battle yet. The fight's still out there. So I think we need to do everything we can," said Corn.
