(WSIL) -- A Mayo Clinic led study may help those in our region battling the coronavirus.
SIH is identifying patients that may be good candidates for Convalescent Plasma Therapy.
The therapy would infuse moderately to severely ill patients with the plasma of recovered COVID-19 patients, in hopes of providing them antibodies that will help fight off infection.
Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr. Sarah Altamimi, says the study has two goals.
"One is to determine if the Convalescent Plasma Therapy can improve the chance of recovery for people with the most severe disease, and the second goal is to test whether the convalescent plasma can help keep people who are moderately sick from getting sicker."
Recovered COVID-19 patients that have been symptom free for 14 days, and are at least 17 years old, can apply to donate their plasma through the .
